The office of the deacon, as set forth in Scripture, is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.

Visitation Ministry
All deacons are involved in calling on our homebound members. Communion is served to those who are homebound upon request. We keep informed on those who are ill or bereaved and send cards to those church members. At Christmas time we deliver a soup tray to these who are homebound or sick. (our Christmas Joy Delivery)
Helen Weeks visits the sick in hospitals.
Service Ministry
The deacons sponsor the Deacon’s Christmas tree, deliver gifts from the congregation to the Laura Dester Shelter, and sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive several times a year.
Care Giving
The deacons arrange for receptions to be held in the Forbes Parlor following funerals.
The loose offering funds which are designated for the deacons are used to make a monthly donation to Meals on Wheels, to support the Pastor’s discretionary fund, and bereavement receptions.
Flowers from the Sunday Service are delivered to members who are unable to attend services.
